Glaciers

This territory is known touristically as the Province of Los Glaciares. Imposing ice fields, moutains, gorgeous lakes and lush forests, alongside unique architecture and interesting local culture, give life to the landscape of southern Patagonia, the southernmost tip of the Aysén Region.

Here we find three locations that serve as a base for a series of excursions and tours. Cochrane, small city with a good range of services and close to highly attractive protected wild areas such as the Lago Cochrane or Tamango National Reserve and the Patagonia Park. What's more, you can visit the Calluqueo Glacier located on Mount San Lorenzo which is 50 km south of Cochrane. You can also visit Caleta Tortel, with its picturesque cypress walkways of the Guaitecas and sail to the Isla de los Muerto and see the Steffen glacier in Campo de Hielo Norte and the Jorge Montt glacier in Campo de Hielo Sur. Finally you will arrive at Villa O'Higgins, right where the Carretera Austral ends and the start of the Southern Ice Field. It travels a wide network of trails that highlights attractive places dominated by the Cisnes and Ciervo lakes, the Mayer river and the Mosco and Tigre glaciers. Visit Lake O'Higgins which is one of the great Patagonian lakes and the deepest in America with 836 meters where you will find the O’higgins Glacier.
